CBD as a Moisturiser

We all talk extensively about CBD in the context of pain relief, anxiety, anti-seizure etc - amongst other anti-inflammatory benefits. For this article, we'll be discussing CBD’s use as a moisturiser.

What are Moisturisers?

People use moisturisers for different reasons. Naturally, the body produces sebum which protects the skin and hair from moisture loss. A Moisturiser on the other hand is an external agent that helps the skin to stay moist. So, anything applied to the skin to keep it from being dry can serve as a moisturiser.

Everyone is in pursuit of clear, soft and supple skin. The importance of the skin cannot be overemphasised, especially as it says so much about its wearer. It must therefore be taken care of appropriately by using the right moisturisers.

You may not be surprised to learn that almost every part of the human body has a type of moisturiser dedicated to it – It can be a bit of a minefield.

What are the General Benefits of Moisturisers?

Many people use moisturisers just as a matter of course without much thought as to why. If you are one of those people who forgets to moisturise, or just don’t like using them, you should  consider the benefits of using moisturisers, and you might just change your mind.

  • It helps your skin glow. Often, people do not have the time to apply makeup before leaving the house or jumping onto a last-minute zoom meeting. The easiest makeup to apply is a face moisturiser. It keeps the skin glowing without need for anything else.
  • It fights skin breakouts. It is not uncommon to find skin breakouts on the body. This can be a reaction to a drug, health condition, or numerous other factors. The right moisturiser will help fight those breakouts and help the skin return to its original shape. However, some skin conditions might not be eradicated due to their severity, but the right moisturiser can protect them from getting worse.
  • It helps dry skin. Not everyone has moist skin, some people need moisturisers to keep the skin hydrated. If you have dry skin, you should carefully choose a cream or lotion depending on the cause of your dry skin.
  • It keeps your skin healthy. The right moisturiser can work wonders for your skin keeping it fresh, subtle and evenly toned.

Choosing the Right Moisturiser

One size doesn’t fit all - Never assume that any old moisturiser might suit your skin type. You should watch out for certain things before choosing the right moisturiser to use;

  • Know your skin type. Do you have dry, combination or oily skin? The ingredients you choose can make a huge difference depending on your skin type.
  • Check for allergies. Check if your skin reacts to the ingredients in the moisturiser.
  • Check for Sun Protection Factor (SPF). If you want to get a morning cream, you might consider one with SPF to protect you from the ultraviolet rays from the sun. If you would also like to get an evening cream, consider not getting one with SPF, but rather antioxidants.
  • Consider any skin conditions you may have. Acne, eczema and rosacea for example, can all be supported (or exacerbated) with different ingredients.

Is CBD Oil a Good Moisturiser?

We have previously established that CBD helps relieve pains and other inflammatory conditions, and yes, CBD Oil is a good moisturiser.  Acne is a very common skin problem many people have. CBD contains certain compounds that fight inflammatory properties in the skin.

It can also help alleviate dry skin. Dry skin leads to irritation and can progress to the skin flaking and peeling. CBD oil helps keep the skin stay fresh and eradicates skin irritation. It is particularly helpful for those who have challenges with eczema, dermatitis, and other skin problems.

It helps the skin stay refreshed and youthful. With the consistent use of CBD oil, the skin looks younger even as the body ages. Ever since experts have made us aware of the antioxidant properties of CBD Oil, there has been a buzz on how it slows down the aging process and reverses the signs of aging.

Aside from healthy-looking skin that glows, CBD Oil can also help fight against microbial infections that might affect the skin. Studies have shown this alongside the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects of CBD.
