What is Rosacea, and what causes it?

Rosacea is a skin condition known for causing redness of the skin, characterized by blood vessels often appearing visible on the individual's face. The condition is also characterized by the appearance of small red-coloured bumps on the skin filled with pus. As a skin condition, Rosacea is most common among middle-aged women who have fair skin and is often confused with acne, among other skin conditions. Some of the proposed remedies for managing (not treating) Rosacea include applying antibiotics and anti-acne medication as a control mechanism. It is imperative to note that when Rosacea is not treated, it gets worse.

While the number of people living with Rosacea continues to grow, there is still no definitive information about what causes the condition. There is a class of people who are generally predisposed to Rosacea, including those between the ages of 30 and 50, fair-skinned people with blonde hair and blue-coloured eyes, and people of Celtic or Scandinavian descent. Rosacea is also considered hereditary, which means that if someone within your bloodline had the condition, then there is a chance that you will also develop the condition at one point in your life.
Evidence has also pointed to Rosacea resulting from the intersection between hereditary and environmental factors. The symptoms of the condition become even worse when other additional factors are involved. These factors include:

  • When one eats spicy foods regularly.
  • When one eats cinnamaldehyde compound items, including cinnamon, chocolate, tomatoes, and citrus.
  • When you actively drink hot coffee or tea
  • When you have the intestinal bacteria Helicobacter pylori
  • Presence of a skin mite called Demodex and its associated bacterium, Bacillus Polonius
  • Presence of cathelicidin. This is a protein serving to protect the skin from different forms of infection.

How can CBD help with Rosacea?

CBD body creams are popular for its characteristic anti-inflammatory benefits. The anti-inflammatory property is owed to the anti-microbial, anti-pruritic and anti-acne properties that serve to relieve all forms of rosacea symptoms, primary and secondary alike.

The main reason why CBD can help with Rosacea is inflammation and its characteristic system-based stasis. The main objective for where Rosacea is concerned is the management and reduction of inflammation using different approaches without bringing any internal or external harm to the body.

While there is no known cure for Rosacea so far, leaving the condition untreated will only worsen. The best chance you have, therefore, is to manage the symptoms. Instead of focusing on topical and anti-inflammatory add-ons that would damage your skin and, even worse, your renal system, in the long run, consider CBD, which holds many other benefits  your health.

What does the research say?

The reason behind which CBD is your number one solution in managing this condition falls on three clear lines; CBD has anti-inflammatory qualities, anti-microbial qualities, and anti-pruritic qualities. CBD qualifies as your surefire skincare solution against all Rosacea-related symptoms when these three fortes are combined.

With regards to the anti-inflammatory qualities, Rosacea comes in the form of tissue damage that leads to inflammation. At the onset of the infection that triggers an immune response (the inflammation itself), CBD is the primary solution for this kind of inflammation. By treating the symptom of the underlying condition and the disease or injury that causes the condition, CBD helps get rid of the skin inflammation. To do so, the cannabinoids target the macrophages and the microglial cells, among other white blood cells. Besides reducing the inflammation itself, CBD also eliminates the severe pain linked to the inflammation. The activation of glycine receptors manages this pain alleviation. In general, CBD is a remedy for Rosacea because it can mitigate the symptoms that come with the mild and severe inflammation.

In terms of the anti-microbial qualities of CBD, this oil is a common prescription by doctors to patients with Rosacea as a means for coping with acne that results from disease or infection. As a preferred prescription, CBD helps manage the disease-causing organisms (otherwise termed pathogenic organisms). Among the pathogens include Staphylococcus Aureus bacteria, which work well with CBD's anti-microbial properties. Research about CBD has also revealed that the cannabinoid has a control effect on the sebum that is present on the face, while at the same time helping in the normalization of skin cell growth.

Regarding the anti-pruritic benefits of CBD, cannabinoids enable the body and skin to achieve homeostasis and generally balanced and optimal body health. Other than the homeostatic balance and anti-inflammatory benefits, the topical application of CBD soothes irritated skin while reducing the duration of irritation. This is achieved credit to CBD's ability to inhibit and prevent itching by blocking the pain signals. Soothing the skin is made possible by CBD's ability to activate the CB2 receptors present on the peripheral sensory nerve fibres.

What other methods of easing Rosacea are there?

Other than CBD as a means for easing Rosacea, other methods have been proposed for managing this condition. These include:

  • Identifying and avoiding the causative or influencing triggers.
  • Protecting your face by wearing sunscreen, which may be a problem for individuals whose skin is rather sensitive.
  • You can also manage Rosacea by using or applying topicals that help reduce the face's reddening and eliminate pimples. This option can be achieved by visiting a dermatologist for a prescription.
  • You may also use oral antibiotics such as oral acne drugs where necessary. This is also given on a prescription basis and is a common choice for moderate to severe cases as they generally target cases of inflammation.
  • Finding better ways to manage or deal with stress is also an approach to avoiding the development of Rosacea, but this is only for people who are genetically or environmentally predisposed to the condition.
  • It is also advisable to reduce inflammation by employing a diet rich in omega-three fatty acids. This option is good because it does not come with any downside effects whatsoever.
  • Some of the foods high in this nutrient include fish, flaxseed, and olive oil.
The last alternative is the use of laser and other light-based therapies. While these treatments are useful in reducing the reddening of the blood vessels that become bigger over time, the approach has a downside. It must be repeated for the best results to manifest.
