Based on the derivation of CBD and its popularity among the youth of today, there has been some negative buzz concerning CBD and its ability to cause the high that is usually attributed to psychoactive drugs. To Clarify, CBD cannot and does not get you high. It is not a psychoactive compound like its close relation, THC. This means that it does not create any hallucinogenic effect whatsoever, especially when used appropriately.

This begs the question to “how do I use CBD appropriately”? Usually, as a result of the difficulty and expense needed to acquire a CBD license, a lot of CBD producers and sellers do not actively cover the minimum or maximum dosage of CBD that may be effective for certain ailments. Because most CBD products are usually considered nutritional supplements or cosmetics etc. They cannot be prescribed over-the-counter.

CBD Dosage

One of the many things to consider while taking CBD is consistency. CBD cannot work effectively if it is used on and off. When using the recommended dosage of 2 to 3 times daily or using it topically every day, consistent regularity is key. First start with small doses, over time you can work your way up to a daily routine that delivers suitable results. Your body will take what it needs from CBD, so there is often a maximum dosage where you gain your benefits, and don’t need to take any more. It is also important to consider minimum dosages – For example, a CBD hand or face cream with less than 2% CBD in unlikely to bring any tangible benefit for most people.

Does CBD do Anything?

Since we have established that CBD does not get you high, a lot of people might ask “Does CBD do anything?” Yes, it most certainly does. At least when taken consistently, CBD provides a myriad of benefits to the body. CBD's calming effect and ability to reduce anxiety is one of the key reasons it is an active ingredient in the only CBD product approved by the FDA for treating rare forms of epilepsy.

What is the Dependence Potential of CBD?

Animal studies show that there is no tolerance to CBD even at a high dose. This is worth mentioning due to controversies about CBD mainly because it’s a derivative of the hemp plant.

Human studies on the potential dependence of CBD however is yet to be reported but anecdotal evidence suggests that CBD does not cause dependence over time.

What is the Abuse potential of CBD?

Human and animal experimental research shows that CBD is not associated with abuse risk. In fact, experiments revealed that the effect of CBD was the opposite to that of drugs like cocaine, and opioids.

This explains why CBD is not a controlled substance and has been made legal in many countries. It also explains why it is used so widely to treat many addictions.
