What Is The Difference Between CBD And THC?

What Is The Difference Between CBD And THC?

Many of our customers ask this question, there is a lot of information online about the two compounds – But what is the difference? THC stands for Tetrahydrocannabinol, CBD stands for Cannabidiol. These Cannabinoids are not the only components of cannabis; however they are definitely discussed the most. CBD vs THC is something debated wildly across the internet.

The Compounds

Both THC and CBD are compounds of the same plants, cannabis or hemp. Generally, the Cannabis Plant has a much higher concentration of THC and a lower concentration of CBD whereas the Hemp Plant has a higher concentration of CBD but a much lower content of THC.

The chemical makeup of both compounds is the same; two oxygen atoms, 30 hydrogen atoms, and 21 carbon atoms. Both CBD and THC are similar to our own body’s Endocannabinoid, which is why they can interact with our cannabinoid receptors.  The key difference is how the body reacts to either compound. Both CBD and THC affect your brain's neurotransmitters and affect things like memory, sleep, pain, and mood.

THC gives you the “high” sensation, it is psychoactive, and this is why THC is more controversial and has varying degrees of legality in different countries.

In contrast, CBD is a "non-psychoactive" compound, it doesn't give you any kind of high. Only 0.3% of THC traces are found in CBD products, and at this volume it is not enough to produce any psychoactive sensation.

CBD is also well known to offer the user many different health benefits.

CBD & THC Benefits

CBD can offer innumerable benefits for both human and animal physical and mental health, and now is regarded as an important health contributor for the ever growing consumers both in the UK and internationally. CBD and THC can deliver some of the same benefits, there are some subtle differences (beyond the psychoactive elements):

For many conditions a combination of CBD and THC is reported as effective.

CBD & THC Side Effects

When it comes to CBD, users generally do not cite any noticeable side-effects, regardless of dosage. However as with any supplement, CBD occasionally may cause some minor temporary side effects. Read more about CBD side effects.

THC side effects are more widely understood, and again contribute to its legality across the world. Key side effects can include paranoia, red eyes, dry mouth, coordination issues, palpitations, slower reaction time, and in some extreme cases, memory loss.

Even though both CBD & THC compounds can be derived from the same plant, the way they interact with our body is different. CBD is better known for its health benefits and reduced, if any, side effects, and hence considered to be safer and better tolerated.
